why wouldn’t you have any of it backed up. A 1 terabyte external drive is only like 100 bucks now.

i dunno man. i got this 500 GB one a couple of years ago and it never showed any signs of slowing down, except in the past couple of weeks when i noticed that the DC port on the back was getting a little fritzy. i pull it out of my suitcase yesterday and it gets no power. i just didnt see it coming and i didnt have the discretionary income to buy extra hard drives just in case.

Haha. Don’t worry it happens to all of us. I’ve had my hard drive go and it was a learning experience. I won’t ever let it happen again. I have everything backed up in like 3 different places cause I’m paranoid.

    Hi Brian,

I think you can open the external hdd and extract the disk drive inside, withe the connection cable.
Normally, you can install this unit inside your computer, as a second drive. Another option is to buy some external hdd box for 20 to 30 USD in which you will be able to reinstall your hdd.
Actually, the hdd is ok and your music is still there, just the supply module is probably dead.

    Good luck from France,

thanks for the tips dude. yeah i’m sure everything is still on there, i just have to find a way to get power to this thing so i can pull everything off. thanks for your tips.

your hdd is probably fine, its just the power supply/whatever that’s gone bad… what you need is a new enclosure. just run down to a larger electronics store or a computer specialty store and they should be able to help you out.
