Dosh – The Lost Take (2006)

the parade of anticon beatsmiths soldiers onward with martin dosh’s the lost take. unlike alias’ work, dosh, while tangentially touching on hip-hop at times, never uses the style as a jumping off point. instead, his cluttered pastiche of instrument samples and warm electronic tones combine to form something that can be hard to pin down but surprisingly easy to get lost in. andrew bird, who utilizes martin’s percussion expertise in both his live band and on his most recent noble beast, donates his violin to a number of the lost take‘s tracks. inwardly focused but never self-indulgant, dosh’s deft sonic craftmanship on the lost take is mature, adventurous, and most of all, fun to listen to.
