Spokes – People Like People Like You (2008)

Mancunian five-piece Spokes are here to steer us back into calmer, more melodic waters. I can almost guarantee that any fan of moving mountains will find this right up their alley. however, spokes are a sort of reverse in that they are a post-rock band with slight indie/emo influences, instead of the other way around. folky vocals work their way into the mix every once in awhile, but this is a largely instrumental affair. the production has a slightly worn, analog feel to it, sometimes making the sounds more in line with bands like the arcade fire than your standard post-rock outing.

this release reveals more of itself to you over time. what sounded like your run of the mill post-rock album at first eventually becomes a thoughtful variety of original sounds and interesting ideas. their climaxes might not rattle the heavens, but Spokes’ subtleties, attention to detail, and clear passion are impressive nonetheless.
