we’re from japan! – now breathe (2008)

the search for good-quality album art to accompany this post (which, as you can tell, ended in vain) filled me in on lots of neat information on Portland, OR post-rock soldiers We’re From Japan!

while adding excitement to any sentence that their name happens to finish, WFJ! have spent the better part of this decade wallowing in obscurity here on their home shores. luckily, they seem to have developed quite a following in… you guessed it; Japan. unfettered by the awkward confusion their name probably causes, WFJ have signed to independent Zankyo Records and toured the land of the rising sun numerous times while remaining all but unknown (and unsigned) in their native country. it seems like they’re trying to change that with now breathe.

this album never strays too far from the post-rock archetype we’ve been raised on, but WFJ! stick out with their interesting melodies, welcome sense of urgency, and clean sound. your ears will probably enjoy this.
